Nootionconceptweb > Blog > From CMSFS to Concrete5
The following was a reply I wrote to help other freelancers find a more up to date and better CMS. This was written on the forum at CMSFS.
After using CMSFS for the past years, I was hesitant to head over to another management system and I really didn't want to work with anything else. On top of that, I couldn't find anything that meet my expectations but in time, I was also noticing the lack of support and updates from CMSFS.
I took a full week of testing other CMS's, you name it, i've tried it (meaning: installation, ease of use, added pages, content, etc) and within the 40 something system I tried only 2 stood out, Jaws-project and Concrete5.
(I did try the 2 most "popular" system, Joomla! and wordpress. However, i didn't want to give a blogging platform that tries to be a cms nor wanted to give Joomla! to my clients because I felt it was clustered and confusing. I find their add-ons to be a mess also.)
I was using CMSFS for a while and didn't want to change due to it's user-friendly interface. Once I got to understand the structure of Concrete5, my choice was made and quickly realized that it was the best at what a CMS is supposed to do.
Jaws was fun but it's lack of support and missing functions made it a no go! However It's ease of template integration was great.
Concrete5 had everything I was looking for. Good support from the community, great and functional add-ons, a friendly user interface, easy template integration is made simple thanks to simple PHP snippets that you'll get to know quickly and an amazing overall CMS. I want to mention this again, the ease of usability from a client perspective is on point! When you turn on advanced permission you can control what the editors can see and what they can control. This gives you full credit when you're explaining how the system works to a client. "That's it?" and "WOW! This is easy" will be something you'll hear often.
Don't get me wrong, CMSFS still is amazing and the easiest cms I've worked with...to a point where some of my clients are so at ease editing content that they hesitate switching over to Concrete5!
If you like CMSFS, you'll definitely feel at home with Concrete5, especially with the Designer Content add-on, reminds me of the "sets" found here
!
Thanks Ben for the amazing system you have given us, I really appreciate it.
Justin.
